June is National Indigenous History Month — a time to honour the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. Indigenous Peoples have lived on these lands since time immemorial, each with unique traditions, knowledge systems, and deep connections to the land and community. This month offers all Canadians an opportunity to learn, reflect, and recognize the strength, resilience, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous communities in the face of the lasting impacts of colonization.

Honouring Indigenous peoples means more than acknowledgement — it means action. It involves listening to Indigenous voices, supporting language revitalization, learning the true history of Canada, and advocating for justice and equity. Whether it's attending a community event, reading works by Indigenous authors, or educating ourselves about treaties and land rights, every step taken toward understanding is a step toward reconciliation.

As settlers, immigrants, and descendants of diverse cultures, we each have a role in building respectful relationships with Indigenous communities. This month, let us commit to deepening that relationship — not just in June, but every day. Let us celebrate Indigenous excellence in the arts, governance, education, and activism, and continue to stand in solidarity with the calls to truth and justice that Indigenous peoples have led for generations.

C-FACE is honoured to live, work, and play on the unceded, ancestral, traditional, and continually occupied territories of the Semiahmoo, Katzie, Kwantlen, Kwikwetlem, Qayqayt, Tsawwassen, and Musqueam First Nations.
